The Dui Hua Foundation, with offices in San Francisco and Hong Kong, is a visionary non-profit foundation which conducts a dialogue on human rights and rule of law with the Chinese government. Dui Hua’s mission is to bring clemency and better treatment to at-risk detainees through mutually respectful dialogue with China. Established in 1999, our work has gained credibility with government officials, the media, and the people we serve.

Role Description:
The ProInspire Fellow will serve as the Finance & Operations Officer. This role is a key member of the Dui Hua team, supporting the Directors and Senior Managers in the foundation’s operating and financial functions. The ideal candidate will be an experienced finance or accounting professional with strong excel and database skills and keen interest in US-China relations and human rights issues.

  • Perform day-to-day financial activities including bookkeeping, monthly closing, and reconciliations
  • Conduct regular financial monitoring and analysis, ensure all financial activities are conducted within generally accepted nonprofit accounting principles, IRS regulations, and our grantors requirements
  • Prepare financial reports and analysis for management and grantors
  • Support annual budget development for Board review and approval
  • Support development staff in grant and gifts administration
  • Support program staff in preparing budgets and financial reports for grants application and reporting
  • Support Senior Managers to design and implement an IT plan that successfully meets the current and future productivity and database needs of staff
  • Work with external auditors and tax accountant on annual audit and tax reports
  • Assist Executive Director on the organization's operating, financial, budgeting, and administrative processes with an eye to continuously developing and improving policies and practices
  • Manage office services, vendor relations, and contract negotiations 
Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
  • Strong computer skills, highly proficient in Excel analysis and database management 
  • Logical thinking, adept at crunching numbers 
  • Experience with QuickBooks or a similar accounting software 
  • Experience working with a donor database or constituent relationship management system a plus
  • Experience writing operation manuals and developing reporting formats to guide management and board in decision-making 
  • Understanding of nonprofit accounting and legal compliance requirements 
  • Proven financial analysis skills, demonstrated resourcefulness and good judgement 
  • Highly organized, ability to multi-task while maintaining a vigilant attention to detail and timeliness
  • Excellent interpersonal and team skills 
  • Proficiency in Chinese language a plus 
Requirements for Success:
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in finance, business, and/or accounting 
  • At least 2 years of professional experience with demonstrated experience in finance and/or accounting
